Karsen Konkel, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound tight end from Pinckneyville, Illinois, announced a commitment to play in the B1G on Wednesday.

Konkel, who committed to Illinois, is the No. 42 tight end in the country and No. 20 player in the state of Illinois, according to the 247Sports Composite. He was recruited to Illinois by Robby Discher and Andy Buh.

Konkel chose Illinois over scholarship offers from the likes of Arkansas, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Indiana. He’s mostly played running back and outside linebacker in high school, and while his frame is expected to translate to tight end in college, there could be a discussion to play on defense.

The Illini continued a recent hot streak on the recruiting trail with the 10th commitment in the Class of 2024 and 4th in-state commitment in the class. Konkel is the 6th-highest rated recruit in the class.
