Illinois is down a linebacker after updating its 2019 official roster.

Linebacker Jimmy Marchese, who has played in 15 games over the last two seasons with the Illini, is no longer a member of the team. He was not listed on Illinois’ updated roster and Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer confirmed that Marchese was no longer with the program.

Marchese appeared in three games in the 2018 season.

Marchese joined the Illini in 2015 and appeared in 22 career games in his career. He played in all 12 contests in 2017, which included two starts at linebacker. He became the first non-scholarship player to start in a game at Illinois since 2014.

In his career in Champaign, Marchese totaled 21 tackles, one stop for loss and one interception. He registered 18 of his tackles and his lone tackle for loss in 2017. Last fall, he recorded three stops and his only interception.

Marchese is a three-time Academic All-B1G selection.
