Illinois has added another transfer player to its roster.

The Fighting Illini received a commitment from Louisville graduate transfer safety TreSean Smith on Thursday. He is a redshirt junior who has two years of eligibility remaining. He missed all of the 2019 season due to a suspension by Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield.

Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer reported the news.

Smith totaled 70 tackles and two interceptions in his first two years at Louisville. He’s a former three-star prospect from Cincinnati, Ohio. He becomes the sixth player to transfer to Illinois during this offseason.

Head coach Lovie Smith has turned Champaign into an attractive destination for players in the transfer portal. He’s been able to land players who could come into the program and be immediate contributors on the field.

In the past, Illinois has landed transfer players like Brandon Peters, Josh Imatorbhebhe, Oluwole Betiku Jr. and Luke Ford, among many others. Smith could be the next big-time transfer to make a quick impact for the Fighting Illini.

Illinois finished the 2019 season with a 6-7 record.
