That was not a good performance against Purdue.

After recording a B1G win against Rutgers, Illinois headed into a home matchup with the Boilermakers looking to keep things rolling. Unfortunately, it was Purdue who did the rolling with a 46-7 blowout of the Illini.

Illinois fell to 3-3 with the loss, but it is the way that the team lost that is troublesome. The Illini have now been blown out by Penn State and Purdue this season and must now turn around and face a tough Wisconsin team on the road.

There’s definitely plenty of work to do moving forward, and head coach Lovie Smith said the team will focus on the work ahead at his Monday press conference. He didn’t provide any answers for the blowout loss, but Smith said the team cannot allow a bad game against Purdue to hinder what they hope to accomplish the next week.

Reporter Isaac Trotter shared Smith’s comments:

Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 12 pm EST on FS1.
