Reggie Love III, Illinois' leading rusher, reveals transfer pledge to B1G rival
Reggie Love III is leaving Illinois via the transfer portal. However, he is not going far, and Love will get a chance to face his former team during the 2024 season.
Sunday afternoon, Love revealed his transfer commitment to Purdue and head coach Ryan Walters. He brings a veteran presence to the backfield and should provide a nice tandem with Boilermaker star Devin Mockobee.

During the 2023 season, Love led Illinois with 567 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns but was limited to 8 total games. He was efficient with the ball, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. For his career, Love has just over 1,000 yards rushing with 6 touchdowns and 4.4 yards per carry.
Mockobee led Purdue with 811 yards rushing and 991 yards from scrimmage this past season, but Tyrone Tracy Jr. also rushed for more than 700 yards in the Boilermaker offense. Now, Love will try to fill that complementary role for the 2024 season.
Illinois and Purdue are set to face off next season on Oct. 12 in Champaign.
