A 13-year-old rising football star was shot and killed at a party in Illinois this weekend, according to a report from KSDK.

Jaylon McKenzie, an eighth grade student and rising football standout, was reportedly shot and killed at a party in Venice, Illinois. According to the victim’s mother, he was leaving the party because a fight broke out and he wanted to avoid the scene.

McKenzie was struck by a stray bullet. At the time of the report, there was not much information on the incident.

Even as a 13-year-old, McKenzie gained serious attention as a potential football star. He was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Six teens who will rule the future in sports.” He had received college offers from Illinois and Missouri, despite his young age.

Police said more information would be available Sunday.
