Illinois has reportedly landed a new quarterback.

After taking a visit to Champaign this weekend, former USC quarterback Matt Fink has committed to Illinois, according to the Los Angeles Times. Fink becomes the third former Trojan to commit to Lovie Smith and the Illini, joining former teammates Trevon Sidney and Oluwole Betiku.

The Illini have been looking for a quarterback on the transfer market this offseason, hosting Fink and former Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens. With Fink committing to Illinois, Stevens may be a little more hesitant to continue his career in Champaign.

Fink will be a graduate transfer, meaning he’s immediately eligible for the 2019 season. His commitment comes at an opportune time for Illinois, as MJ Rivers — who started four games last fall — announced his decision to enter the transfer portal over the weekend. Fink will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Fink played in a limited role for the Trojans, appearing in seven games over the last two years. He completed 13-of-18 pass attempts for 89 yards and a touchdown. Fink also accounted for 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

As a high school recruit, Fink was one of the top 500 players in the 2016 recruiting class and held offers from several big-time programs before settling on USC.
