It didn’t take long for teams to start reaching out to Illinois guard Andre Curbelo, who recently entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

On Wednesday, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reported that at least 8 teams have already reached out to the Illinois guard, who just completed his second season in Champaign. Those schools include:

  • Gonzaga
  • St. John’s
  • Georgia Tech
  • Pitt
  • Kansas State
  • St. Mary’s
  • Clemson
  • Texas A&M

There will likely be more to join the list unless Curbelo makes a decision quickly. It’s not entirely surprising that so many teams have shown interest, considering the guard’s unique skill set.

Curbelo averaged 7.5 points, 3.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while playing in 31 contests during the year. He averaged more than 21 minutes of playing time, as well.

Last year, Curbelo averaged 9.1 points, 4.2 assists and 4 rebounds per game while playing less than 20 minutes.

Curbelo hit the double-digit point total in 6 games during the 2021-22 season, including a 20-point outing against Purdue — his best scoring day of the year. He played a key role in helping the Illini claim a share of a B1G regular season just one year after winning the B1G Tournament.

Curbelo can still choose to return to Illinois if it’s in his best interest.
