Illinois big man Omar Payne has reportedly found a new home.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that Payne has committed to continue his career at Jacksonville. He spent just one season with the Fighting Illini after transferring in from Florida. He still has two years of eligibility remaining.

Payne played in 32 games for the Fighting Illini during the 2021-22 season, helping the team to a B1G regular season title. He averaged 1.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and just under 1 block per contest.

In his previous two seasons at Florida, Payne appeared in 55 games with 15 starts. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game over the course of his time in Gainesville.

At 6-foot-10, Payne will provide the Dolphins with a strong interior presence on both ends of the floor.

Payne will be joining a Jacksonville squad that finished with a 21-10 record, including an 11.5 mark in A-Sun play. The Dolphins lost in the championship game of the A-Sun Tournament, which would’ve secured a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
