Lovie Smith will reportedly have a vacancy on his staff.

Thursday morning, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Illinois defensive line coach Austin Clark is joining the Miami Dolphins as a member of the coaching staff. He will reportedly become the outside linebackers coach for the franchise.

Clark just completed his second season as the defensive line coach for the Illini. He was hired by Smith in February 2018.

Clark is just 30, but already has four years of coaching experience at the college level. Prior to his two years at Illinois, he spent two years at USC where he was an assistant defensive line and outside linebackers coach.

Before taking an on-field position at USC, Clark was a recruiting assistant at Cal.

Clark was a member of an Illinois staff that led the program to its first bowl game since 2014. The Illini also upset No. 6 Wisconsin and overcame a 25-point deficit on the road against Michigan State en route to a 6-6 regular season mark. Illinois lost to Cal 35-20 in the Redbox Bowl.

Miami finished the 2019 NFL season with a 5-11 record. The Dolphins have not enjoyed a winning season since 2016.
