Report: Lovie Smith’s son arrested in Arizona, faces sex trafficking, other charges

Mikal Smith, the son of Illinois head coach Lovie Smith, has been arrested and is facing numerous charges relating to sex trafficking and prostitution, according to a report from 12News. 

Per the report, Mikal was arrested under a grand jury warrant in Arizona. He is facing charges of sex trafficking, pandering, receiving earnings from a prostitute, money laundering, conspiracy and illegal control of enterprise.

Mikal was booked into the Gilbert Chandler Jail and is being held on $100,000 bond and his arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Mikal was a football player at the University of Arizona before taking on a coaching role on his father’s staffs in the NFL. He worked under Lovie from 2009 through 2015 as a member of the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff while his father was the head coach.

Lovie was named the head coach at Illinois ahead of the 2016 college football season.

Mikal is 43 years old.
