Only a few days after Illinois secured its first win of the Bret Bielema era, it’s being reported that multiple players have officially left the team.

Illini Inquirer is reporting that tight ends Cooper Davis and Brandon Hohenstein and defensive tackle Quinton McCoy are no longer with the program. None of the the three are listed on the current Illinois roster.

Davis was a member of the 2020 recruiting class, arriving at Illinois under the previous coaching regime. McCoy was a recruit in the 2021 class and Hohenstein transferred in after spending time at Nebraska and Abilene Christian.

None of the three players were expected to make much of an impact for the Fighting Illini during the 2021 season. It’s unclear why the three are no longer with the team.

Illinois is 1-0 after Saturday’s 30-22 victory over Nebraska. Bielema’s squad will play UTSA this weekend.
