The Illinois Fighting Illini thought they were adding an experienced receiver from USC this offseason, but now that plan has changed.

According to a report from 247Sports, graduate transfer WR Jalen Greene will no longer be heading to Champaign for the 2018 season.

The report states that Greene will instead stay closer to home and play for Utah State this fall:

Greene, who spent the last four years at USC, originally committed to Illinois in March but now will stay closer to his California home and play in the Mountain West Conference.

Obviously, losing out to Utah State isn’t a great sign for coach Lovie Smith and the Fighting Illini, but that’s where they’re at as a program right now.

In three years at USC, Greene recorded 26 catches for 318 yards and zero touchdowns.
