Another Illinois Fighting Illini productive defender is set to transfer.

Sophomore safety Patrick Nelson will transfer from Illinois, after the school granted his release to transfer on Tuesday.

Nelson has two years of eligibility remaining. According to 247 Sports’ Illini Inquirer,  Nelson will graduate after spring semester, meaning he would be a graduate transfer and be immediately eligible to play at his next school.

Nelson finished the 2017 season tied for third among Illini in tackles (65) and also added 2.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. During his two seasons on the field, Nelson totaled 140 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
