Due to uncertainty surrounding the status of former Penn State Nittany Lion Robbie Gould (quad), the San Francisco 49ers another B1G alum on Thursday, former Illinois kicker Chase McLaughlin.

The team’s official Twitter account shared the signing and a corresponding roster move:

A member of the Illini program from 2015-18, McLaughlin 44-59 (74.6%) of his field goals and all 79 of his extra points during his time in Champaign.

Undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, he signed with the Buffalo Bills but was waived on August 31. Signing with the Minnesota Vikings the next day, he was released on September 10.

McLaughlin finally found some brief stability when he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on October 1. Filling in for the injured Michael Badgley, he made six-of-nine (66.7%) field goals and all seven point after attempts.

The lone unbeaten team in the NFL, the 49ers (8-0) will face the Seattle Seahawks (7-2) on ESPN’s Monday Night Football at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland on the call.
