Seth Coleman was a consistent force for the Illinois defense during the 2022 season. On Wednesday, he solidified his decision for 2023.

A former 3-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, Coleman will return to utilize another year of eligibility with the Illini. Coleman developed as a pass rusher this season with an effective number of sacks and pass breakups.

Coleman finished 2022 tied for second on the Illini with 4.5 sacks. He also added 45 total tackles, 5 TFL, and tied for 4th on the team with 6 pass breakups.

Coleman’s best game of the 2022 season came in the win over Iowa when he logged 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks and a pass breakup. He also produced 7 total tackles and a pair of pass breakups on the road against Michigan.

For his career, Coleman has 80 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks. Along with the return announcements from Keith Randolph Jr., Jer’Zhan Newton and Calvin Hart Jr., the decision from Coleman gives the Illini the makings of a strong group up front for 2023.
