Status for Kofi Cockburn determined for Illinois' Friday night clash vs. Maryland
Illinois will be without its All-B1G center on Friday night in College Park.
247Sports reported on Friday morning that star center Kofi Cockburn will miss the road game against Maryland. He did not travel with the team for the matchup and is currently in concussion protocol.
He took an inadvertent shot in practice on Sunday, but felt fine and did not feel right after taking a few elbows on Monday in a loss to Purdue, a team spokesperson said. His status for Tuesday’s game against Michigan State is not yet known.
Cockburn’s absence means the Fighting Illini will be without one of the game’s most dominant players. He’s averaging 21.1 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season.
Illinois currently sits at 13-4 on the season and is 6-1 in B1G play. The Fighting Illini are coming off their first loss in conference, falling to Purdue on Monday afternoon in Champaign.
Maryland is 9-9 and just 1-6 against B1G foes.
Friday night’s game is set for 8 p.m. ET with the game airing on FS1.
