Illinois’ 2021 recruiting class has added a new pledge.

Monday, three-star safety Demond “DD” Snyder gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini. He became the 11th player in the 2021 recruiting class to join Lovie Smith and company.

“Special shoutout to my family and friends for supporting me on and off the field and pushing to be the best version of myself,” Snyder wrote. “Also would like to thank the coaching staff and my teammates at Tampa Catholic for allowing me to lead and be a part of the program. With that being said I am excited to say that I’m 100% committed to the University of Illinois.”

Snyder is listed as a 6-foot, 175-pound safety out of Tampa. He received offers from five other Power Five programs, including Duke, Indiana, Louisville, NC State and Washington State. He also received several offers from the Group of Five and FCS levels.

Smith is assembling a recruiting class that is filled with Florida talent. Snyder becomes the seventh player from the Sunshine State to verbally commit to Illinois. The Illini have two pledges from Georgia, one from Missouri and another from Texas, as well.

With Snyder’s commitment, Illinois ranks 59th nationally in the recruiting rankings. It is 12th in the B1G.
