The play-by-play call of Illinois’ game-winning field goal might be more exciting than the kick itself

Everyone inside the walls of Memorial Stadium was fired up about Illinois’ upset win over No. 6 Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon in Champaign. That inclues the broadcast team, calling the game for Illini fans.

Tweeted out by Fighting Illini SP, a video of Illinois’ broadcast team making the call for James McCourt’s 39-yard game-winning kick was shared. And it’s certainly an entertaining one.

While the play-by-play guy attempts to stay professional during the call, a few of his broadcast partners couldn’t help but belt out celebratory cheers after the ball sailed through the uprights, giving Illinois a 24-23 win.

It was easily the biggest win of the Lovie Smith era at Illinois, and it was the Illini’s first B1G victory of the season, snapping a four-game losing streak. It was Wisconsin’s first loss in 2019.
