Tommy DeVito will reportedly start for Illinois in today’s game against Minnesota, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

He left last week’s win over Iowa in the 1st quarter with an ankle injury. Illinois still managed to hold on for a 9-6 win. With his status in question, Illinois was unsure if DeVito would be able to suit up for the important conference game. Before he left the Iowa game, he passed for 42 yards and completed 6 of 11 passes.

If he was unable to play in Week 7, Illinois would have been forced to start backup quarterback Artur Sitkowski. When DeVito left with his injury, Sitkowski came in to replace DeVito against Iowa. Fortunately for Illinois, DeVito will be able to test out his ankle.

On the season, Illinois is 5-1 and that record has been attributed to DeVito’s consistent play at quarterback. DeVito has passed for 1,163 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. If he can have another solid performance, Illinois will be positioned to win the game and stay in the race in the B1G West. With a 4-1 record, Minnesota also needs to win this game to help it’s chances of competing for a division title.

Illinois is set to host Minnesota at noon ET on BTN.
