Tommy DeVito is looking to take the role of QB1 in Champaign, and he is getting the starting reps in the spring game for Illinois.

The ex-Syracuse product is trying to settle in with the Illini. So far, he has found a solid connection with wide receiver Isaiah Williams in the passing game during Thursday’s spring game.

The first touchdown of the game came courtesy of Josh McCray on the ground as the starting offense showcased a healthy dose of McCray and Chase Brown. Both running backs look strong and ready for 2022, but it was the combination of Williams and DeVito that provided some nice moments.

DeVito’s first touchdown of the first half came on a corner route as Williams was matched up in man-to-man coverage. The pretty pitch-and-catch went for 25 yards.

Later on, DeVito hit Williams as he was running down the near sideline. An Illinois defender was even flagged for pass interference on the play as DeVito placed a perfectly thrown ball to Williams from about 40 yards out.
