Illinois got some unfortunate news less than two weeks before National Signing Day.

The program’s top 2016 recruit, Kentrail Moran, announced he opened up his recruitment on Friday.

Moran was the 18th-rated running back in the country and was the 374th player overall in the 247sports composite rankings.

The three-star running back committed to Illinois back in the spring before Tim Beckman was fired. The O’Fallon, Illinois native was reportedly having academic issues.

It’s a tough blow for an Illinois team that already lacked one of the state’s top 10 2016 recruits. The program did get a commitment from Florida running back Devin Singletary.

Illinois’ incoming class is ranked 64th nationally and 11th among B1G teams, according to 247sports.
