Things were working early on in Tuesday night’s game against No. 10 Michigan State for Illinois guard Trent Frazier. With the Illini shorthanded, the super senior stepped up in the first half.

Frazier scored 10 early points on 4-of-5 shooting to help give Illinois a boost as it was playing without Kofi Cockburn and Andre Curbelo. That great start catapulted Frazier into Illini history.

Frazier is now among the Top 10 scorers in Illinois basketball history. He passed Mark Smith (1,653) and Brandon Paul (1,654) to occupy the No. 8 spot. Frazier entered Tuesday’s game with 1,648 points.

As the season continues, Frazier is going to have an opportunity to climb pretty high in the Illinois record books. He is less than 100 points away from a Top 5 spot.

Brian Cook sits in that No. 5 position, totaling 1,748 career points.

Considering the number of great players who have suited up for the Illini over the years, this is quite an impressive accomplishment for Frazier.
