Illinois has landed its second verbal commitment of the month.

Wednesday afternoon, the Fighting Illini received a verbal pledge from two-star wide receiver Kalen Villanueva of Falls Church, Virginia. He picked Illinois over offers from five other programs, including Army, Navy, Campbell, Penn and William & Mary.

Villanueva became the 12th member of Illinois’ 2021 class and is the second prospect in July to verbally commit. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“I’m thankful for all the coaches giving me the opportunity to advance my academic and athletic future,” Villanueva wrote. “With that being said, I’d love to announce that I will be spending the next four years of my career at the University of Illinois.”

Villanueva is listed as a 6-foot-1, 205-pound wide receiver with a 4.52 time in the 40-yard dash, per 247Sports. He’s ranked as the No. 314 wide receiver in the 2021 recruiting class.

Illinois now has commitments from three wide receivers in the 2021 class. Villanueva is the first player out of Virginia to join Lovie Smith and company.

The Fighting Illini currently rank 60th nationally and 12th in the B1G in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
