Camp Randall Stadium is revered as one of the best environments in college football. And “Jump Around,” one of sport’s most recognizable weekly traditions, is a fan favorite.

But Illinois offensive coordinator Rod Smith isn’t fan and, therefore, he really doesn’t like any of it. Well, at least the “Jump Around” part. But it may not be for the reason you think.

Some coaches might point to the loud environment and finding it difficult to communicate with players. Smith, who sits in the press box, really doesn’t enjoy the way the it makes the structure shake when he’s so high above the ground.

“The only thing I don’t like about it is that damn ‘Jump Around’ when I’m in the press box,” Smith said. “It’d be nice if I was outside the box. But when you’re in the box and the box shakes, that’s a little scary. So I don’t like that.”

Smith also said he’s not a fan of heights, making his experience even worse.

Hey, at least he’s being honest.

Smith should have plenty to keep him occupied on Saturday as Illinois tries to figure out a way to dissect a solid Wisconsin defense. That should help keep is mind off the swaying box when the students start bouncing around.
