WATCH: What was Illinois thinking on this punt return?

Sometimes, it just isn’t your day.

That was the case with Illinois on Saturday. All the frustration culminated in one ridiculous — yet hilarious — mistake.

Illinois’ Carmoni Green was back to return a Rutgers punt in the third quarter of Saturday’s game. With great coverage by the Scarlet Knights’ coverage team, Green decided to let the ball it the turf and, presumably, let Rutgers down the ball.

But at the last second, for some unknown and very confusing reason, Green attempted to fall on the ball with several Scarlet Knights surrounding him. Needless to say, that did not turn out well.

Just two plays later, Rutgers was able to punch it across the goal line and take a 28-10 lead in the third quarter.

It really hasn’t been Illinois day in Champaign.
