WATCH: This read option went horribly wrong for Illinois

It has been a rough game so far for Illinois, but this play was especially bad.

The Illini have struggled against Purdue all afternoon and entered halftime trailing 29-7. Illinois did score a touchdown on its second possession of the game, but it has been all Boilermakers since then.

Even with Purdue playing well, the Illini were their own worst enemy on this option play. Both running backs cut in front of QB AJ Bush Jr. with both apparently expecting a hand off. It created a royal mess in the backfield that turned into a disaster.

In the end, Bush kept the ball. He was predictably tackled for a loss.
