4-star recruit, Indiana target sets commitment date

2023 4-star Jakai Newton is nearing his commitment date and the Hoosiers are right near the top of his list.

Newton will officially be committing on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. ET. He has a top 3 of Indiana, Georgia, and Vanderbilt.

When Newton was asked what stood out about the Hoosiers, he was quick to mention head coach Mike Woodson (via Travis Branham).

“It just feels like a home and the players he has coached. He has coached a lot of successful players and there are things he brings outside of basketball too.”

Newton is the No. 4 player in Georgia for the 2023 class and the No. 12 combo guard overall for the country, per 247Sports Composite. He’s also the No. 67 recruit, regardless of position.

Before he announced his top 3, Newton had interest from several other schools, including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Xavier.
