B1G Network analyst shares 3 takeaways after visiting Indiana's fall camp
Joshua E. Perry visited Indiana on Friday as the Big Ten Network crew makes their way through all 14 B1G campuses during fall camp.
Perry left feeling optimistic about the Hoosiers and called out positive signs of growth on offense and on defense.
The first thing Perry noted was Indiana’s running game, which he believes will be improved in 2021. IU finished No. 12 in the Big Ten last season with 108.63 rushing yards per game.
“The offensive line and the run game I think is much improved,” Perry said. “The guys up front just move really well. They’ve got a good body type out there, they got some physical guys. They just look really impressive and the run game and I think is taking a step forward from where it was last year.”
Perry also believes Indiana’s defense will remain a strength. He called IU’s secondary a “nightmare” and believes the Hoosiers will remain one of the top turnover teams in the Big Ten.
“I look at that defense as a whole and I think they’re going to be really good,” Perry said. “Up front, they’ve got some guys, maybe not the biggest, but they know how to play to their advantages. They move around really, really well. That linebacker group I think is going to be very good and that secondary is going to be a nightmare. They took the ball away a lot last year, I think they’ll do the same thing this year.”
Lastly, Perry said he was impressed by Indiana’s overall organization under coach Tom Allen.
“This is as well-coached of a group as we’ve seen,” he added. “Tom Allen’s got his coaches on top of everybody. They’re really good teachers and really really good motivators.”
