Indiana has finally landed its first verbal commitment of the 2022 recruiting class.

Monday, the Hoosiers received a pledge from Arkansas native and 3-star linebacker Kaiden Turner out of Fayetteville. He is the first member of the cycle to verbally commit to Indiana. The news comes the same day that IU announced a contract restructuring for head coach Tom Allen.

Turner released a statement on his commitment through Twitter.

“First off I would like to say that nothing I’ve accomplished up to this day has been done by myself,” Turner wrote. “I’ve been blessed by God with the ability to play the game and use football as my platform to spread His name! After a lot of prayer and support from my family, coaches and friends I’m excited to announce I will spend the next 4 years at THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY!!!”

Per 247Sports, Turner is a 6-foot-2, 218-pound linebacker who ranks as the No. 35 player at his position and is one of the Top 20 prospects out of Arkansas. He received over a dozen offers during the recruiting cycle, picking Indiana over Arkansas, Cal, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Wake Forest and Washington State at the Power 5 level.

Group of 5 teams to express interest were Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Houston, Liberty, Memphis and Middle Tennessee.
