Bob Knight, legendary Indiana coach, passes away
Bob Knight’s family announced that he had passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday as the basketball world mourned the longtime Indiana coach.
The family left a message on his website. They explained that they appreciated all the thoughts and prayers through this difficult time for them.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family,” Knight’s family said. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored. We will continue to celebrate his life and remember him, today and forever as a beloved Husband, Father, Coach, and Friend.”
Knight finished his Indiana tenure with a record of 662-239. He led the team to three national championships, 11 B1G Championships, and 1 NIT title.
One of Knight’s better Indiana teams was during the 1975-1976 season. That team started the year ranked first in the country and held the rank all the way through. The Hoosiers finished undefeated that year with a perfect 32-0 record.
Knight coached in Bloomington up until the 2000-2001 season. After that, he coached at Texas Tech from 2001-2008.
Indiana fans will remember Knight for a long time.
