Indiana flips former USC commit
Indiana hoped that Tom Allen would come in an establish a recruiting presence in Indianapolis. The former Ben Davis High (Ind.) coach was heralded for his reputation in Indiana’s biggest recruiting market.
It turns out Allen’s got some pull in South Florida, too.
The No. 25 athlete in the 2017 class, Juwan Burgess, played his high school ball with Allen’s son, Thomas, at Plant High School (Fla.) in Tampa.
Burgess, a previous USC commit, announced on Friday that he’s switching his commitment to join Allen at Indiana:

That decision was made after Burgess took an official visit to Indiana last week. He also had an official visit to Florida scheduled this weekend.
Burgess instantly became the highest-rated recruit in Allen’s 2017 class. The three-star athlete is the No. 413 player overall in the 247sports rankings.
It remains to be seen what position Burgess will play in Bloomington, but he projects as a defensive back and possible return specialist.
The 6-0, 185-pound recruit became the third Plant recruit, joining Thomas Allen and receiver Whop Philyor as commits to give their pledges to Indiana. Burgess became Indiana’s 20th member of its 2017 class.
IU’s 2017 class is rated No. 56 in the 247sports team rankings.
