Curt Cignetti just engineered the biggest blowout win for Indiana in the history of the Old Oaken Bucket series vs. Purdue. But to hear the head coach address it, the score could have been even worse.

In the season finale, Cignetti’s group rolled to a dominant and otherworldly 66-0 shutout vs. the Boilermakers. Starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke tied a single-game program record with 6 touchdowns, and 7 different Hoosier skill players found the end zone in the game.

So, how did Cignetti feel about the performance after the game? He acknowledged the defense played well and that it was a dominant win, but Cignetti felt the offense missed a few chances.

“It was a pretty dominant win. I thought we really played well on defense,” said Cignetti. “You know, offense had some missed opportunities, but it’s a rivalry game.

“It’s a great season for these guys. We’ve got a lot of great kids on this team, lot of senior leadership. It’s a historic year for Indiana, but we’re not done yet, and we’re not satisfied.”

Whether or not there is some truth to Cignetti’s comments, it’s clear his guys play with a chip on their shoulder and that never satisfied mentality. We’ll see how it serves the Hoosiers when it comes to the Playoff.
