Curt Cignetti is making a major push for Indiana’s 2024 recruiting class on the doorstep of the Early Signing Period. Tuesday evening, he punctuated that push with a major commitment from one of the top in-state recruits.

The commitment comes from Tyler Cherry, a 4-star quarterback out of Center Grove High School in Greenwood. He was originally committed to Duke but reopened his recruitment after the hiring of Cignetti by the Hoosiers.

Now, Cherry is on his way to Bloomington and IU:

Cherry is listed at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds and is rated a 4-star QB by the 247 Sports Composite. He’s also the No. 5 player out of Indiana and the No. 20 QB in the nation for the class of 2024.

With his decision, Cherry immediately becomes the highest-ranked commit for Cignetti’s initial recruiting class with the Hoosiers. That group has 18 overall players to this point, and landing Cherry is a major in-state win for Cignetti.

Indiana also has a commitment from 3-star QB Alberto Mendoza out of Miami. Going with two QBs in the cycle is not entirely surprising, and Cignetti has done a good job putting together a decent first class in Bloomington.
