Curt Cignetti makes history during Indiana's blowout win over Charlotte
Curt Cignetti has won everywhere he’s been, and now he’s doing it at Indiana, which isn’t exactly an easy place to take over and start reeling off victories.
But the 63-year-old Pittsburgh native is doing just that while making some history in only his 1st 4 games as the Hoosiers head coach. With Saturday’s 52-14 victory over Charlotte in Bloomington, Cignetti became the 1st Indiana head coach to ever start 4-0.

Talk about making a great 1st impression.
That’s not the only Indiana football mark that came with Saturday’s blowout. The Hoosiers have now racked up a combined 202 points in those 1st 4 victories of 2024, which is another program record. Indiana scored 31 points in a season-opening win over FIU, then the Hoosiers really got revved up, putting up 77 points against Western Illinois and 42 at UCLA last week in their lone road game so far this season.
Back to Cignetti, who went 53-17 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which was his 1st career head coaching job. Then he went 14-9 at Elon before going 52-9 in 5 seasons at James Madison before arriving at Indiana this season.
Counting the 4 victories at IU, Cignetti is a whopping 123-35 so far in his head coaching career. The next challenge awaits next Saturday, as the Hoosiers host Maryland.
