Emery Simmons is a player that has a chance to become a key player for the Indiana Hoosiers as he is forced to step up due to the injuries of his fellow receivers.

D.J. Matthews Jr’s injury and the illness to Cam Camper have given Simmons a chance to become the number receiver.

On Wednesday, Simmons talked about what he brings to the table (via IUHoosiers.com):

“I’m very reliable. When the time comes, make a play. If you do, like (receivers coach Adam Henry) says, the ball finds energy. When the ball comes your way, make a play and they’ll keep coming back to you.”

Simmons transferred to Indiana this past off-season after 3 years at the University of North Carolina. In 7 games this season, Simmons has caught 28 receptions for 305 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Indiana head coach Tom Allen talked about Simmon’s added productivity. The gears are starting to turn for Simmons with Indiana.

“He’s playing the way I expected him to play,” he says. “We wanted him here several years ago and we finally got him.”
