ESPN's FPI predicts outcome of Indiana's matchup vs. Louisville
ESPN’s FPI is predicting all the action coming up in Week 3 and that includes Indiana’s nonconference matchup with Louisville.
While the opponent is a bit uncommon, the Hoosiers will see a familiar face at head coach in the game. Jeff Brohm, previously at Purdue, is in his first season leading the Cardinals football program at his alma mater.
Heading into the matchup, Louisville is rated as a heavy favorite per the Football Power Index. The system gives the Cardinals a 74.4% chance of getting the win despite facing Indiana in Bloomington.
Tom Allen has already faced Brohm head-to-head a number of times, and the results have not been in favor of Indiana. Across 5 head-to-head matchups while at Purdue, Brohm is 4-1 against Allen with Indiana’s only win coming during the 2019 season.
As for the Louisville-Indiana series, the two teams have faced just twice all-time during the 1985-86 seasons. The Hoosiers are 2-0 against the Cardinals with a pair of Bill Mallory teams beating Howard Schnellenberger during his time in Louisville.
In this year’s matchup, Indiana enters with a 1-1 record but has finalized the starting quarterback position. Allen confirmed at his weekly press conference that Tayven Jackson will be the full-time starter moving forward after winning the job coming out of Week 2.
