Even at 2-8, Indiana's Tom Allen says he doesn't regret talking B1G title in offseason
As the saying goes, “aim high, aim far,” or something like that, followed by something else that’s supposed to be inspirational.
For Indiana football coach Tom Allen, his chatter during training camp about his Hoosiers being in contention for a B1G championship was supposed to be an inspiration.
It didn’t work.
But Allen has no regrets, and said so during his Monday press conference. He said he honestly had hoped the team would be there.
Allen: "I did envision this group, at this point in the year, being in contention for a Big Ten championship. … Have we played at that level? No. But I believed it. And I wanted our guys to see it."

Allen asked if he regretted at all talking about winning the Big Ten at the beginning of the year instead of just thinking one game at a time. Says he's thought this through and he doesn't regret it.

Rutgers pummeled the Hoosiers on their home turf on Saturday afternoon, 38-3. With the loss, their record dropped to 2-8 on the season. Even with the home crowd on their side, the Indiana offense couldn’t get anything going and allowed Rutgers to take advantage of six turnovers courtesy of the Hoosiers offense.
With starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. out due to injury, Allen even tried a mix of three quarterbacks with Donaven McCulley, Grant Gremel and Jack Tuttle all taking snaps.
Next up for Indiana, they will host Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 20 with a 2:30 PM kickoff scheduled.
