Former Indiana defensive end Jalen Mayala has found a new home after opting for the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month.

Mayala, who spent one season in Bloomington, is heading to UAB. He announced his commitment to the program with a post on social media earlier this week. He will still have four years of eligibility to play for the Blazers following the 2020 campaign.

In his lone season with the Hoosiers, Mayala did not appear in any games. Indiana ended the year with a 6-2 record.

Mayala was a 3-star member of Indiana’s 2020 recruiting class. The Georgia native is listed as 6-foot-5, 230 pounds. He was ranked as the No. 51 weak-side defensive end of his class and was listed just outside the Top 100 overall prospects from his home state.

Indiana beat several other Power 5 programs for Mayala’s offer as a member of the 2020 class. Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Arizona, Mississippi State, Virginia and UCLA were among the biggest names to offer the defensive end.
