He appeared in 4 games with the Steelers last season and was a camp casualty after the first roster cuts came in. Scales was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 before also playing with the Indianapolis Colts, as well as the Steelers.
Before he made the jump to the NFL, Scales started all 4 years at Indiana. His best season came in 2016 (his junior year) when he had 125 total tackles (92 solo) with 7 sacks and a pick 6.
His senior season was his 2nd best season as he totaled 89 tackles (56 solo) with 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. Scales finishes his collegiate career with 324 total tackles (217 solo) with 17 sacks and 8 interceptions.
Scales will be looking to make the Browns 53-man roster and he’ll get his first chance to show he belongs on it when Cleveland takes on the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 29. It will be the Browns’ final preseason matchup before the regular season begins.
