Former Indiana star and longtime NBA head coach and assistant coach Keith Smart is heading back to the college game.

On Wednesday, Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman announced on Twitter that he has added Smart to the staff. He was last an assistant with the New York Knicks in the NBA during the 2018-19 season.

Smart takes an overwhelming amount of NBA experience with him to Arkansas, having coached in the league from 2000-19. He has been a head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. He’s also been an assistant coach with those organizations, as well as the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies.

This will be Smart’s first time working with a college program.

Smart played college basketball at Indiana University under legendary head coach Bob Knight from 1986-88 and went on to be a second-round pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.

Smart is most recognized for hitting the game-winning shot against Syracuse in the 1987 national championship game.
