Tom Allen continues to win big on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

Sunday, the Hoosiers received some big news, landing former USC and 5-star running back Stephen Carr. He is the first player to have a 5-star rating from 247Sports to commit to Indiana in the history of recruiting rankings. Carr will add immediate depth and talent to the Hoosiers’ running back room.

“I want to thank USC, Coach Helton and the entire coaching staff, the faculty and all my teammates over the years for believing in me, helping and allowing me the opportunity (to) live out a childhood dream of being a Trojan,” Carr wrote on Twitter. “I will never forget what was accomplished here and I will never forget the great energy that moves through the campus of USC.

“However, with my last year of eligibility – I have chosen to transfer to Indiana University and finish my college career playing to my full potential and helping IU to a Big Ten Championship.”

When Carr entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, there were rumors that Indiana might be a target destination. He had ties with new running backs coach Deland McCullough, who was on staff at USC in 2017 before joining the Kansas City Chiefs.

Over the last four seasons, Carr has played in 34 career games at USC and has rushed for 1,319 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s also totaled 421 receiving yards on 57 catches and reached the end zone one additional time.

As a recruit, Carr was a 5-star member of the 2017 class and was ranked as the No. 20 overall prospect. He was also considered the No. 3 running back of the cycle.

Indiana finished the 2020 season with a 6-2 record, posting winning records in back-to-back seasons.
