Even though Indiana lost to Ohio State 42-35 today, FOX Sports analyst Brady Quinn said after the game that Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. outplayed Ohio State’s Justin Fields.

Per Clint Buckley of 247Sports, Quinn said, “I did not think I’d be, after the game, talking about Michael Penix being the better of the two quarterbacks. And it wasn’t even close, ok. He put this team on his back, (491) passing yards, five touchdowns. Yeah, he threw a pick but he had to take some of those chances because he had no rushing attack. Negative-one yards on the ground. It was bombs downfield, he took chances and what really impressed me most was the poise he showed from the pocket under duress at times, even throwing off his back foot.”

Penix Jr. was able to lead them back into the game, thanks to his 491 yards passing as Quinn said. He was the reason why the Hoosiers had a chance to win the game at the end, albeit a small chance.

For the season, Penix Jr. now has 14 touchdown passes to four interceptions.

He’s solidified himself as a darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate and his next game with the Hoosiers will be against Maryland next Saturday.
