Staes was a backup to Michael Mayer at Notre Dame, but still managed to make an impact early on in his career. In 2023, he caught 15 passes for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns while helping the Fighting Irish to a 10-win season.
He transferred to Tennessee with having a big role in the Vols’ offense this season, but that did not end up coming to fruition. Staes caught 15 passes for 131 yards and 1 touchdown this season. He did not catch a pass in Tennessee’s College Football Playoff loss to Ohio State last month.
Staes now joins an Indiana team that will be hoping to keep momentum going in 2025 after it reached the CFP for the first time in program history this past fall. He is listed at 6-foot-4, 248 pounds.
Staes has 1 season of collegiate eligibility remaining.
