An Illinois athlete has decided to commit to Indiana.

Friday morning, 6-foot-2, 220-pound athlete Trenten Howland announced on Twitter that he has verbally committed to Indiana. He picked the Hoosiers over offers from three other B1G programs, including Purdue, Nebraska and Minnesota. Howland made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“I would like to announce that I will be committing to Indiana University to further my academic and athletic career,” Howland wrote. “Thank you and God bless!”

Per his 247Sports evaluation, Howland has the size and athleticism to play either the running back position or linebacker at the college level. He has plenty of experience at the running back position and brings an excellent combination of explosiveness and elusiveness to the field.

Howland does not possess much experience playing the linebacker spot, but has the talent and frame to shift into that role for the Hoosiers.

Howland is a native of Joliet, Illinois and is ranked as the No. 22 player from the state. He’s also listed as the No. 58 athlete in the 2021 recruiting class. Indiana is now up to eight verbal pledges with Howland’s commitment.

Indiana ranks 58th in the 2021 recruiting cycle currently and 13th in the B1G.
