Indiana picked up a big-time transfer commitment on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hoosiers landed a pledge from former Arizona center Oumar Ballo, who was one of the most productive big men in the Pac-12 last season.

Here’s his commitment announcement:

Ballo, a 7-footer, averaged 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game last season. He’s widely-regarded as one of the very best available players in the transfer portal this offseason for his work on both ends of the court.

Ballo joins ex-Washington State guard Myles Rice in Mike Woodson’s transfer portal class. The Hoosiers are also set to add 4-star small forward Bryson Tucker in the class of 2024 this offseason.

It will be interesting to see how Indiana chooses to fill out the rest of its roster. The Hoosiers took on plenty of criticism last season for their offensive philosophy, particularly with regards to the 3-point shot. IU ranked poorly in both 3-point percentage (255th) and 3-point attempt rate (351st) last season.

So far, Indiana has done little to fix either one of those concerns. Ballo has attempted zero 3-pointers across his 4 seasons of college basketball. Rice shot just 27.5% from 3-point range last season, although was north of 80% at the foul line which is a good sign for potential improvement in that area.

Indiana is expected to continue adding talent via the portal this offseason as it prepares for a crucial 2024-25 campaign.
