Indiana isn’t hosting the College Football Playoff game against Notre Dame on Dec. 20, but that doesn’t mean for 1 second that the school isn’t going out of its way to give its students the best chance to watch the game.

On Monday morning, the university announced that Indiana’s Winter Commencement ceremony times would be moved up on Dec. 20 because it falls on the day of probably the biggest football game in Indiana history. The change means that students graduating in December will still have the opportunity to attend the Hoosiers’ historic first appearance in the College Football Playoff.

The commencement ceremonies were moved to 9 a.m. and noon at the IU Auditorium.

The new times will give students plenty of time to enjoy commencement well in advance of that night’s 8 p.m. ET kickoff between the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish in South Bend. Because the game isn’t in Bloomington and getting to the game would involve travel, steps were taken to avoid any conflict with 2 huge things in a college student’s life: his or her graduation and being involved in a huge event such as the Indiana-Notre Dame Playoff game.

With both things converging on the same calendar day, the university made sure its students would have the chance to be at both without a conflict.
