Indiana will be a heavy home favorite vs. Idaho in Week 2 but win or lose, they’re going to have to pony up an enormous fee.

Indiana will pay Idaho $1.2 million, which is the most expensive guaranteed-payment game of the 2021 season, according to USA Today.

The reason for the high figure is because Idaho made an unusual decision to shift down from the FBS to the FCS and never renegotiated the deal with Indiana. The deal was made in 2015 when Idaho was a member of the FBS.

Indiana-Idaho will also face off in 2022. Indiana will pay Idaho $1.3 million for that contest.

Indiana is coming off a 34-6 loss at Iowa in the season opener. Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. struggled with 156 yards and three interceptions.

Indiana posted a 3-0 home record last season in the shortened 2020 campaign.

In its season opener, Idaho blanked Simon Fraser 68-0. This is the first meeting between Indiana and Idaho.
