Indiana athletics will be doing things differently during an exhibition game against Marian on Saturday.

According to Tyler Tachman of the Indy Star, the Hoosiers will honor the 1972-73 team as part of their 50th anniversary celebration. That season, Indiana won the B1G title en route to a Final 4 appearance against No. 1 UCLA.

Led by coach Bob Knight, the Hoosiers went on a 4-game winning streak to close out the season as conference champs.

From there, Indiana took down No. 5 Marquette in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament before defeating No. 17 Kentucky in the Elite 8. The Hoosiers keep things close in the 1st half against the Bruins, but John Wooden’s roster ran away in the 2nd half to pick up the 70-59 win and advance to the championship.

The Hoosiers would finish 3rd in the tournament after defeating No. 4 Providence in the national 3rd place game in St.Louis. Indiana would finish the season with a 22-6 overall record, going 11-3 in conference play.

Three years later during the 1975-76 season, the Hoosiers would hoist their 1st of 3 national titles under Knight with an 86-68 win over No. 9 Michigan in Philadelphia.

Indiana opens its regular season at Assembly Hall on Nov. 7 against Morehead State.
