Indiana basketball will not be retaining one of the assistants from Mike Woodson’s initial coaching staff with the Hoosiers.

Wednesday evening, Woodson released a statement to announce that assistant coach Dane Fife would not be returning for the 2022-23 season. Fife, who played at Indiana, initially joined Woodson’s staff after spending a lengthy stay as an assistant on Tom Izzo’s Michigan State staff.

“I am committed to doing what I believe is best for the continued growth of our men’s basketball program as we collectively work toward returning it to the upper echelon of college basketball,” said Woodson via statement. “Sometimes, that commitment can result in some very difficult decisions, and that is the case today. Ultimately, I believe that the fit must be right with a coaching staff, and I’ve decided that a change is necessary. I appreciate everything Dane has done as a member of the staff during the last year and as a player for our program.”

In his first year as head coach, Woodson was able to guide the Hoosiers into the NCAA Tournament and to a First Four win by Wyoming. It will be interesting to see where he pivots for the opening on his coaching staff.
